Award-Winning Schools
From preschool through college, Conejo Valley schools are renowned for their educational prowess.
This month, join La Reina Middle and High School for the 10th Annual Nun Run and Community Service Fair on February 4, in Thousand Oaks. Proceeds benefit local and global outreach, including the homeless, immigrants, human trafficking survivors and recipients of health and eldercare services.
Oaks Christian makes the grade with cutting-edge educational offerings, including their new Institute of Health Science launching this fall. The program features four unique pathways to prepare students interested in pursuing careers in health care.
Local Conejo Valley Unified School District public schools as well as unique private schools, such as Carden Conejo, offer opportunities to fit every learning style. Local universities include California Lutheran University and California State University at Channel Islands, with myriad degree programs and opportunities for outreach.
Caring Community
Local nonprofits abound, paying tribute to the caring spirit in the Conejo. The BumbleBee Foundation helpsfamiliesdealing with cancer, most recently at its annual BEE Merry holiday celebration in December. Many organizations make their home base at Community Conscience, which provides rent-free space to nonprofits so they can use their often-limited funds to help more people in need.
Generous volunteers like this year’s Mardi Gras King David Caitlin and Queen Cristy Warner are celebrated for their selfless community service. This year’s 31st annual Mardi Gras Ball takes place Feb. 10, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Westlake Village.
Open Space
Hundreds of hiking trails, parks and open space grace the Conejo with natural beauty and recreational opportunities for all levels. The Boney Mountain Trail Half Marathon and 7K on Saturday, February 10, in Point Mugu State Park starts at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa in Newbury Park.
Events
Annual events like Ventura County Farm Day showcase local causes, including farmers that grow the food we eat.
Conejo Valley Days is another highly anticipated event each year in May at Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks that celebrates the area's western roots and community spirit with family entertainment, carnival rides, games, live music and more.
